Get Involved With Sport In Norwich

I’ll start Monday. It’s the mantra of every would-be health nut, every good intentioned person longing to get fitter but who hasn’t quite found the right way, or time, to go about it. We’ve all been there, but what most of us probably don’t know is that there are a wealth of ways you can get involved in physical activity in Norwich that are low cost, friendly and welcoming, suitable for all ability levels and above all – fun! The journey towards getting fitter, or just moving a little bit more, can be really intimidating, so we have compiled a multitude of different clubs, events and organisations that are fun and open to everyone to whet your appetite as to what is out there. We want to prove that you don’t need to be an Olympian to get out there and find something fun and physical to do! So, hopefully, after you’re done reading this, you’ll find something you want to give a go, and Monday will come, and you will start! Parkrun, Saturday Mornings, Eaton Park, NR4

Parkrun is a nationwide organisation that runs weekly, free timed 5km runs where anyone can join in, no matter what your ability. Parkrun is popular with people from all walks of life. If you’re a runner preparing for a race, it offers the perfect opportunity to run against the clock on a verified 5km course. For someone who wants to give running a go, it offers a friendly, welcoming opportunity to try running outside with a way to monitor your progress. Gravity Trampoline Park, Riverside, NR1

For a more unconventional workout, how does bouncing around on trampolines sound? Trampolining is a fantastic exercise, providing a vigorous aerobic workout, and Gravity adds to the fun with foam pits, basketball hoops and trampolines on the walls, ensuring you’ll be bouncing off every surface! If you’re not too much of a sports lover and don’t fancy doing anything competitive, this is a great way to get active with a group of friends, all the while laughing yourself silly! Pub and Paddle, Near Red Lion Pub, NR1

Ok, yes, this might be a bit of a stretch, but canoeing is a legitimate sport, so we think this counts! Pub and paddle offers would be river-goers the chance to paddle down the Wensum river, stopping off at a number of pubs along the way, hence the name! Canoeing provides an excellent upper body workout, and while we imagine you won’t be gunning it as if you’re in pursuit of a gold medal, you’ll still work up a sweat if you keep up a reasonable pace. Highball Climbing Centre, Twickenham Road, NR6

Rock climbing is an amazing full body workout. And it kind of makes you feel like Spiderman, which is also really cool. A surefire winner for the whole family, Highball climbing centre offers the chance to try out rock climbing under the supervision of highly trained instructors. If you’re more experienced, you can climb alone, giving all abilities the chance to be able to work at their own pace. If you get the bug you can even take courses which could enable you to become an instructor yourself. Adult Dance and Theatre at The Garage, Chapel Field North, NR2

For many of us, singing and dancing were passions when we were children, but not something we’ve ever spent much time on since. When life gets busy, it can be easy to forget about the things that once brought us joy. It can be really hard to find classes that cater to adult beginners, but The Garage offers an enormous variety of dance, theatre and performance classes catered to adults of all abilities. Example of classes include Ballet Beginners, Contemporary Dance, Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, they even have Egyptian Belly Dance!
