Norfolk Tech Events To Look Out For In 2019

With a population of only around 220,000, Norwich is seen by many as a quaint Eastern outpost, filled with friendly people with funny accents who may or may not have webbed feet. All jokes aside, despite being home to a world-class university and research park, for many Norwich is the last place they’d name when asked to think of the UK’s top tech towns. It is, however, becoming difficult to ignore the fact that Norwich is in the midst of an explosion of investment and growth in tech. And really, why is it so surprising? Both the Norwich University of the Arts and the University of East Anglia provide the city with droves of talented, creative graduates on a yearly basis, not to mention the fact that Norwich is a key city within the Cambridge Norwich tech corridor, a private-public partnership initiated by, among others, Broadland District Council, Cambridgeshire County Council, Norfolk County Council, Norwich City Council and Suffolk County Council, which was set up to drive investment and growth in technology in the region. Here at Koncept, we want to do our part to promote Norwich and the surrounding area as a tech hub to watch out for. We’ve compiled our top picks of upcoming tech events in Norwich that we think are absolutely ones not to miss! Check them out below, and let us know if you’re planning on attending!

Sync In The City – Autumn 2019 – UEA – Norwich

Having been running for five years, we have no doubt that Sync In The City will return in Autumn 2019 with absolute gusto. If you’ve always thought of yourself as a budding Steve Jobs or Bill Gates, if you’re ambitious, technically minded and don’t mind a little bit of sleep deprivation, this event is sure to get your heart racing. Over 54 hours, teams come together to start their own digital business absolutely from scratch. Teams are typically comprised of designers, engineers and business people, both students and professionals, and the event culminates in teams pitching their business to industry professionals, competing for a £3000 cash prize. The fantastic thing about this event is its accessibility – you don’t have to be a techy person to enter! If you have a great idea you can enter with a non-technical ticket. An amazing opportunity to network, make new friends and build your skills, keep your eyes peeled for the 2019 announcement!

Talking Tech 2019 – 18th September 2019 – The Space – Norwich

Back again for 2019, Talking Tech is a half day event run by The Norfolk Chamber of Commerce offering business owners the chance to network, attend panel discussions, workshops and a tech exhibition, as well as the opportunity to hear the wisdom of specially invited keynote speakers. Last year’s event was especially successful at highlighting the enormous growth and exciting climate that is technology in the East of England. Described as a positive and energising day, it’s not to be missed for business owners who are interested in technology in the region.

Dev://East – 15th March 2019 – Corn Exchange – Ipswich

An honorary mention had to be given to Dev://East, Ipswich’s developer conference, now in its second year. Another example of the huge strength of technology in the East of England, Ipswich is also experiencing huge growth in the sector, with this conference having been founded to give the growing community a chance to come together, network, share knowledge and ideas and promote the town as a tech town to watch. Speakers in 2019 include John Nicholson from IJYI delivering the keynote, as well as Paul Foster from Microsoft. Just a short train ride from Norwich, this is another crucial event not to miss for any tech enthusiast in the region.
